How Often Should an Office Be Cleaned? A Schedule That Fits Your Space

Most offices need restrooms, break rooms and trash handled every working day, a full dusting and vacuum every week, and deeper work on carpets, floors and high surfaces a few times a year. The right plan depends on headcount, visitors and floor types.

“How often should we clean?” is the first question most office managers ask, and the honest answer is that it depends on how the space is used. A ten-person suite with few visitors wears very differently from a medical office or a busy sales floor.

A good schedule splits the work by frequency. The areas people touch and use all day get daily attention. Surfaces that collect dust slowly get weekly care. Carpets, hard floors and high areas get planned deep work before they start to look worn.

Daily

Every working day

The areas people use most

These are the tasks that people notice the moment they are missed. In most offices they are done after hours so the team arrives to a clean space.

  • Restrooms: toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions and floors cleaned and disinfected, supplies restocked.
  • Break rooms: counters, sinks, tables and appliance fronts wiped; floors mopped.
  • Trash and recycling emptied and liners replaced.
  • Door handles, light switches and shared desks disinfected.
  • Entrance glass and lobby floors spot-cleaned.
Weekly

Once or twice a week

Dust and floors across the whole office

Lower-traffic offices can move some of these tasks to the daily list on busy floors only, and keep the rest weekly.

Our office cleaning service builds the daily and weekly lists around your floor plan.

  • Full vacuuming of carpet, including under desks and along edges.
  • Dusting of desks, ledges, shelves, frames and window sills.
  • Mopping of all hard floors.
  • Interior glass and partitions cleaned.
Periodic

Monthly to a few times a year

The work that keeps the building from wearing out

Periodic work protects carpets and floors and reaches the dust that daily cleaning does not. How often depends on foot traffic, weather and how the space looks.

When the whole space needs a reset, a commercial deep cleaning covers high dusting, baseboards, vents and corners in one visit.

  • High dusting of vents, light fixtures and tops of cabinets.
  • Carpet extraction in traffic lanes and entrances.
  • Machine scrubbing and burnishing of hard floors.
  • Strip and wax of VCT floors once or twice a year.
  • Window cleaning inside and on reachable exterior glass.

Building the Right Schedule for Your Office

Three questions to answer first

Before you compare quotes, write down the answers to these questions. They decide most of the scope:

  1. How many people and visitors use the space? More people means more restroom, break room and trash work, often every day.
  2. What are the floors? Carpet, VCT, tile and sealed concrete each need a different routine and periodic care.
  3. When can the team work? After-hours cleaning keeps the office quiet during the day; day porters can cover busy hours if needed.
